Steering Group Members are sought to help run events, raise funds, and reach out to the Literary Community.
Since 2018 a group of volunteers has run the monthly Literary Salon as the Edinburgh City of Literature was no longer able to host this event. Our objective is to bring writers and anyone associated or interested in the literary arts together for debate, discussion, and social interaction, engaging with local, national, and global literary events.
The Steering Group was formed as an informal ‘committee’ of volunteers. We have seen many changes in the past 6+ years, especially since the pandemic. Besides a regular monthly Salon we have put on Special Events, collaborated with other groups, and created a special relationship with Edinburgh Napier University's Publishing course.
We are looking for people with an active interest in the Literary Scene essentially, but we don’t intend to set up a stringent selection process! Naturally we’d like to be reasonably diverse, in terms of the literary industries, but also in our commitment to inclusivity.
We need people to help presenting, with ‘front of house,’ and with admin behind the scenes. There is a chance for ‘hands on’ help with programming/producing Events, or a lighter commitment, such as assisting with social media. We aim to have a pool of volunteers, with flexibility to cater to differing levels of commitment.
Please email edinburghlitsalon@gmail.com with a short introduction to yourself, suggesting what you might be able to offer, or with ways you would like to be involved – if you’re not sure how best you could help, just a quick ‘hello’ will do!
FURTHER INFORMATION
Edinburgh Literary Salon host a monthly event, usually on the last Tuesday of each month. Our regular venue is The Outhouse pub on Broughton Street Lane.
We receive no public funding, but we rely on the generosity of our friends and attendees. The Salon is free to attend; we welcome donations and sponsors.
The Steering Group meets monthly, usually on the first Tuesday of the month.
Our social media presence includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, and LinkedIn. This is our website, and we hold a mailing list through Mailchimp.
We have two anthologies featuring new writing by established and emerging writers. These are available from many independent bookshops, or from our website.
We strive to be open and inclusive, and we aim to hold three Salons each year in accessible venues. Where not possible, we attempt to livestream a part of the event.
