NEXT SALON: October’s Hallowe’en Salon

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

Tuesday the 31st of October 2023, 7pm, Live and on Zoom The last Tuesday of this month falls on Hallowe’en, and since we all love a pun, were thinking about Ghostwriting!

Yes, we couldn’t resist it: on the eve of All Saints, we decided to be devilishly devious and twist the theme of ghosts and ghouls into something literary and possibly contentious. Ghostwriting has come into focus lately, so we’ve invited Vin Arthey and Erin Williams to talk about their work in this field. There will be a discussion, and audience questions.

Vin (a regular Saloneer) will expand the 'Halloween'/Ghost' theme into the whole idea of 'Samhain'/'All Saints'/'All Souls' – writing about the dead, (his speciality) and Erin is an Edinburgh-based Ghostwriter and copywriter, a published author with over 15 years of writing experience, who copywrites, translates and ghostwrites in Welsh and English.

Following our fabulous publication of The Golden Hours, our Salons continue to feature writers from the anthology. This month we’ll be introducing Kirsten MacQuarrie who will read her story for us – about a witch, but a good one or bad one? You can decide.

We’ll also hear about some of the other Events coming up in the coming weeks, including Book Week Scotland. Keeping it ghostly we’ll mention the ghosts of Christmas, past, present, and not-too-distant future: our Seasonal Celebration Salon.

We open as usual with a drinks reception, but please note that doors to the Function Room at The Outhouse open at 6.30, to give us time to get our ‘tech’ into place. We’ll livestream the ‘presentation’ on Zoom from 7pm, lasting around 45 minutes. After this, people are invited to mingle at the venue, and chat on zoom if they wish.

Being Hallowe’en, we also can’t resist offering the chance to attend in Fancy Dress: no prizes for the most outrageously spooky costume, but creativity is always encouraged.

How it works...

6.30: Doors Open – drinks reception in the Function Room

6.50: Open the Zoom meeting (details are emailed to all ticket-holders)

7.00: Presentation: Introduction; Kirsten McQuarry to read

7.15: Vin Arthey, in conversation with Erin Williams

7.35: Notes of Interest, Live Mingling, and Zoom chat

Tickets are available from Eventbrite. Places for the in-person event are limited, but we warmly encourage those who cannot attend at The Outhouse to join us on zoom.

It is free to register for all of our events. We invite donations for the glass of wine, or encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome. Our two anthologies are on sale here, and books will be available to purchase on the night. We look forward to seeing you in person or in the zoom-room.

WHY NOT JOIN OUR MAILING LIST FOR FUTURE NOTIFICATIONS!
