NEXT EVENT: July's Festival Preview Salon

It's Festival in Edinburgh, so we'll be sharing news of what's coming up in Town in August, plus looking further ahead and further afield!

We don’t need to tell you the Edinburgh International Book Festival is just around the corner, and depending on if and where you live in Edinburgh, it’ll be around a different corner, now at the Edinburgh Futures Institute. It’s not the only Festival, though! And August isn’t the only Festival month of the year.

For our July Salon, we’ll look at a few other Festivals coming up as well as the Book Festival. We’ll welcome our good friends from the Edinburgh Writers’ Forum who ran the inaugural Edinburgh Women’s Fiction Festival last September. They’re doing it again this year, and we can’t wait to hear what’s coming up.

Before then, there is the Edinburgh International Film Festival. We’ll hear from them about the programme – and perhaps a bit more news on our beloved Filmhouse. We’ll also travel further afield and find out what’s happening in Bloody Scotland this year… as in Scotland's International Crime Writing Festival. We’re delighted to have Bob McDevitt come and tell us more.

Not forgetting the Portobello Book Festival, and Art Walk Porty, plus Push the Boat Out poetry festival, and of course, Wigtown Book Festival, we’ll be waving as many flags as we can find. Please tell us of any other festivities that need flagging up.

We’ll be at The Outhouse again, and after the usual drinks reception from 6.30, we’ll livestream the presentation on Zoom at 7pm, lasting around 40 minutes.

How it works...

6.30: Doors Open – drinks reception in the Function Room at the Outhouse

6.50: Open the Zoom meeting (details are emailed to all ticket-holders)

7.00: Welcome, and introduction

7.10: Festival Previews!

7.40: Further mingling and blether

Registration for the IN-PERSON event can be found on Eventbrite

Registration for the LIVESTREAM can be found here on Eventbrite

It is free to register for all of our events. We invite donations for the glass of wine, or we encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome. Our two anthologies are on sale here, and books will be available to purchase on the night.

We look forward to seeing you in person or in the zoom-room.

Accessibility Notice

Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
